Dunes Las Vegas Vintage Playing Cards
Themed after the story of Arabian Nights, the Dunes, a “Miracle in the Desert,” opened in May of 1955. Built as the tenth resort on Las Vegas Boulevard, the property housed 200 rooms across its two-story building, a 35-ft tall sultan statue, a signature v-shaped pool, a 150-ft lagoon and a Broadway sized theater. After significant losses in the first year, the resort was sold and purchased in 1956 by Chicago Outfit mob-affiliates Major A. Riddle and Jake Gottlieb. Throughout the Dune’s life on The Strip, the theater hosted popular performers including Jayne Mansfield and Frank Sinatra, in addition to many professional boxing matches.
