The Tropicana Hotel and Casino opened in 1957 on the Las Vegas Strip and quickly fell under suspicion by the Nevada Gaming Commission for being Mob-run. Their suspicion was confirmed when mobster Frank Costello died with a note in his pocket detailing the casino’s earnings. Under new ownership in the late 1970s, the property fell victim to the Kansas City Mob's skimming operation that plundered the Tropicana and other Las Vegas casinos of about $7 million. The Tropicana later cemented itself in Las Vegas’ history when it became the first home venue of the world-renown entertainers, Seigfried and Roy. In May of 2023, it was announced that the 1,500-room hotel and casino will be the future site of a 35,000-seat stadium and home to Las Vegas’ first major league baseball team.
